Mount Kenya is an island of resources in a dry environment. Spe-cifically, it is a water tower providing water to over 7 million people living in its surroundings. As rates of deforestation continue to rise organizations are faced with the challenge of findingapproacheswhichcanreducedeforestationwhileofferingalternatebenefitstorural livelihoods in addition to conserving biodiversity. Catchments needtobeprotectedtomaintainwaterquality, biodiversityandgeneral ecosystemhealth. Catchment smanagement activitiesincludeactivitiessuchastreeplanting, streamrehabilitation, erosionman- agement andsoil conservation. Thereisagrowingrec- ognitionof sustainabilityinusingagroforestrytoprotect catchments.
