Community Management of Protected Areas Conservation (COMPACT) Project
The Community Management of Protected Areas Conservation (COMPACT) is an exclusive, two-pronged initiative that addresses environmental concerns and meets the needs of local communities simultaneously. COMPACT offers financial and technical assistance to community-based initiatives that serve to improve livelihoods, while addressing the threats, which jeopardize ecological integrity in protected areas.
The project lays emphasis on World Heritage Sites and globally significant coral reefs. It is implemented under the general framework of Global Environmental Facility/Small Grants Programme (GEF/SGP) and is primarily funded by the United Nations Foundation (UNF). CETRAD is hosting COMPACT Project and provides administrative and logistics support.

CETRAD runs a rich hydromet data and information base generated from its long term and comprehensive monitoring network in the upper Ewaso Ngiro North river basin. Most of this data is now linked through a real time transmission system and interfaced to its database as well as to some selected Water Resources Users Associations (WRUAs) in the upstream areas.
