This is a collaborative project between Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture (SFSA), Syngenta East Africa Ltd, and CETRAD. The project builds on the initial CETRAD/WOCAT pre-investments in Conservation Agriculture (CA) that focused on reduced soil tillage and improved moisture retention for higher yields in some selected smallholder farmers in East Laikipia. The current project, primarily, builds upon the base knowledge smallholder farmers have gathered through training on CA and safe and effective use of Crop Protection Products (CPP) to incorporate other aspects as greenhouse technology, rain water harvesting, Kilimo Salama, Marketing, Weather based Insurance for Farmers, in order to further increase crop yields and improve family income, health & quality of life.
CETRAD runs a rich hydromet data and information base generated from its long term and comprehensive monitoring network in the upper Ewaso Ngiro North river basin. Most of this data is now linked through a real time transmission system and interfaced to its database as well as to some selected Water Resources Users Associations (WRUAs) in the upstream areas.
