WATER RESOURCE USERS ASSOCIATION TRAININGThe Water Resource Users Associations (WRUAs) training took place on 23rd and 24th of November 2016 at CETRAD Conference Hall, Nanyuki. The training, organized by CETRAD in collaboration with Water Resources Management Authority (WRMA), targeted six WRUAs which included; Likii, Ngusishi, Ontulili, Teleswani, Upper Ewaso Ng’iro and Karemeno. Due to their different training needs and the period of operation, the WRUAs were categorized into two groups with each group getting a one full day training. The aim of the training was to endow the WRUAs management committee teams with knowledge and skills on how to better run and manage their respective WRUAs. Likii and Ngusishi WRUAs, having been in operation for a longer period, were the first to be trained focusing on the following topics: • Water Management Regulations• Benefit Sharing Mechanisms• Flood Water Management • Data Interpretation and Application Ontulili, Teleswani, Upper Ewaso Ng’iro and Karemeno WRUAs were given basic management skills because they were formed recently and hence the need for these skills which include:• WRUA Management and Governance• Benefit Sharing Mechanisms• Conflict Resolution and Management• Data Management and Application The WRUAs were engaged in a very interactive and fruitful training with all the participants thanking the two institutions for organizing the training. CETRAD conducts such trainings on need basis for WRUAs in the Ewaso Ng’iro North Basin to enhance their skills and to support smooth running of their organization and growth of WRUAs. In order to realize this, other WRUAs in the catchment will continue to receive similar trainings. Liliaba, Likiundu and Waso Mara WRUAs will be trained from 7th to 9th December 2016.
