Environmental Impact Assessment

Course Objectives and Resource Persons

This is a 3 weeks course offered in September/October every year. The goal of EIA/A Training course is to create critical mass of EIA/EA expertise to meet the national goal of enhancing environmental integrity for sustainable development. The specific course objectives are:
  • Develop EIA/EA capacity for local institutions
  • Impart skills and technical knowledge on the integration of environment, culture and legislations
  • To expose the trainees on the policy and legislative requirements for environmental management and development practices
  • To train the participants on the methodologies, tools, and processes for conducting EIA/EA
  • To expose trainees to field study sites to appreciate the essence of EIA/EA
The course is facilitated by registered EIA Lead experts from Egerton University (Prof. Francis Lelo, Prof. Mathew Chemelil, and Dr. L. W. Chiuri).

Eligibility

The course targets change agents in the government, parastatals and NGOs and Graduate students wishing to be registered with NEMA as EIA/EA experts. Beneficiaries must be holders of a first degree from a recognized institution.
