NCCR

CETRAD maintains a comprehensive database of geospatial data for Kenya and for target areas of the NCCR North-South and ESAPP Programmes in Tanzania. This database contains thematically structured datasets at regional, national and International levels; and also contains spatial datasets in ArcInfo coverage and geodatabase data formats. The regional database holds datasets for Laikipia, Mwingi, Makueni, Baringo and Kajiado with varying densities of coverage. More districts will continue to be covered with time.

CETRAD embraces the principles of institutional networking, collaboration, and partnership, at local, regional and international levels, to realise its objectives.

Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research North-South (NCCR North-South) Programme

The NCCR North-South Programme is implemented by the Centre for Development and Environment in concert with 8 institutions from Swiss Universities, and is in its second phase since July 2005 till June 2009. The core focus of the second phase is 'Research partnerships for mitigating syndromes of global change' through

CETRAD research activities are conducted within the frame of the four major thrusts:

1. Strategies for Sustainable Development;
2. Land Use Planning for Sustained Livelihood and Optimal Resource Use;
3. Promotion of Sustainable Resource Use and Management for Improved Productivity; and
4. Non-farm/Non-pastoral Economic Development, Infrastructure and Services.
