Mapping

Database

CETRAD maintains a comprehensive database of geospatial data for Kenya and for target areas of the NCCR North-South and ESAPP Programmes in Tanzania. This database contains thematically structured datasets at regional, national and International levels; and also contains spatial datasets in ArcInfo coverage and geodatabase data formats. The regional database holds datasets for Laikipia, Mwingi, Makueni, Baringo and Kajiado with varying densities of coverage. More districts will continue to be covered with time.

Currently, the database contains themes such as:

Conservation Agriculture

The Conservation Agriculture Project aims to build upon the base knowledge smallholder farmers have gathered through CA training, and incorporate the safe and effective use of Crop Protection Products (CPP) to further increase crop yields and improve family income, health and quality of life.

Planned Research areas:

  1. Mapping CA practices and documenting farmers adaptation experiences in the Mt. Kenya region;
  2. Factors influencing adoption and non-adoption of CA practices;
  3. Cost-Benefit Analysis of CA

Eastern and Southern Africa Partnership Programme (ESAPP)

ESAPP funded projects fall under two categories: CETRAD's Projects and Collaborative Projects. CETRAD's Projects are those funded for direct implementation by CETRAD, while Collaborative Projects are those funded for implementation by third party institutions, but under the coordination by and/or involvement of CETRAD. Collaborative Projects are both in Kenya and Tanzania.
